Toyota Cars Suck!

What a weekend! Craig and I were driving home for the weekend. We were a little over an hour away from our destination when we were hit by some sort of road debris. The only thing I can remember is that it was black and about 1.5 to 2 inches wide. Whatever it was, it made a big crack in my windshield that started underneath the drivers side windshield wiper and eventually travelled until it was about a foot long vertically.

At this point we decided to go on home since we were so close and get it repaired later. But as if that wasn't enough about 30 mins later we heard this loud clank and then the sound of metal scraping along the pavement. Craig looked to the side of the car to see if anything was dragging or fell off from the car; we didn't see anything but we definitely heard it, it was loud! Thankfully we were just outside a service station and managed to park the car. It was the muffler/exhaust pipe. The bracket that usually holds it in place had fallen off due to the fact that Toyota had decided to put in bolts that were prone to rusting to hold it in place.

We ended up getting a tow that cost $45 and got the bracket fixed with stainless steel bolts and washers for $40.

So as it stands now here are the facts on my 2001 Toyota Corolla:

  • The car had about 15km on it when I first got it

  • Within a year of mostly city/highway driving the car developed chips at the front of the hood which in turn rusted within days. We were assured by the Toyota dealer that this was NORMAL FOR ANY CAR! And had us purchase a bug shield to cover that area.

  • Year 2: The windshield developed a rather strange upside-down U-shaped stress crack that occured in the bottom middle of the windshield while I was driving down the road.

  • Bolts that simply rusted through used to hold the muffler bracket in place. I was not told about any of this the last time I went for an oil change and check up for the car not 2 months ago.

I'm never buying a Toyota again, the customer service sucks, they're expensive and they make a bad product.
