One of the benefits to living in ISV is that you can choose to socialize when you want to. There's usually at least one party of some sort going on during the weekend where people are gathered to drink or play games.
Tonight we had 2 parties going on, Kelly's party of about 10 Canadians and the poker game. I started off going to Kelly's party and chatted with them for a bit but shortly after they started playing "blow" I left to watch the poker game.
After watching a few hands they invited me to play the game, now since I've never played poker before they offered to teach me. Basically you put $10 into the pot to buy your chips and by the end of the game you are refunded whatever your current amount of chips are up to a maximum of what you put in ($10). So if you're unlucky and lose all or most of your chips you're down from $10.
I guess you could call it beginners luck but I finished the game with a winning total of $37.90! Yay! I'd like to play again sometime, and the unrefunded money that is left in the pot is going to go towards buying snacks or some other treat like that.
